Asset classes
Pension funds can invest in a number of asset types, or classes. Some of these asset classes are described as mainstream, others alternative.
Each asset class has a number of defining characteristics and a unique risk and return profile. In addition, the performance of each asset type is related in some way to the prevailing economic environment.
The documents in this section look at the characteristics of these asset classes, those factors that determine their valuation and those which drive their performance.
